About the Artist

Simon Vargas is a multidisciplinary artist working and living between Miami, Fl and New York City. Originally raised between Bogota, Colombia and Madrid, Spain Simon has spent the majority of his life working in and around the arts. From film production and art direction, to countless forms of expression in the realm of contemporary visual art, Simon has dabbled in dozens of creative outlets.

Simon attended SVA (School of Visual Arts) in New York City and has spent the last several years expanding his repertoire in the art world. He has worked on many elaborate mural projects in the hospitality industry including projects in NYC, Miami, Colombia and Spain. He has been showcased in a plethora of international art fairs, dozens of gallery shows, and a variety of site specific exhibitions from Cartagena, Colombia to Southern California. His work has been featured in an array of publications including NYMag, Vogue, L’Officiel, Gotham Magazine, among others. His pieces have now been collected in over 30 different countries, from Argentina to The Phillipines.

His current breadth of work includes large scale emotionally charged oil on canvas portraits, whimsical one of a kind collage pieces, as well as various other unique works on paper and mixed media offerings. The focus and subject matter of his work ranges from bringing cultural awareness to specific remote regions of Latin America, to themes of environmental sustainability, as well as anthropological explorations of underserved/under-appreciated minority communities. Throughout Simon’s various series there is always a touch of magic realism present in his work, a quality that no doubt stems from his Colombian roots and his deep love for the natural world.
